WRITING 

We use a variety of programs to help us teach writing. We use the Six Traits program by Scholastic to help the fourth graders understand the different components of what makes writing stand out as exemplary (such as sentence fluency, organization and word choice). We also use parts of the Step-Up writing program and Nancy Fetzer's writing program to help the fourth graders understand the different genres of writing such as narrative, informational, and opinion. Every quarter students will be responsible for several informal writing pieces and one formal essay.

First Quarter: How to Write a Strong Paragraph and the 6-Traits of Writing

Second Quarter: Narrative

Third Quarter: Informational

Fourth Quarter: Opinion
