READING COMPREHENSION
Reading Comprehension will be taught in a variety of ways. We will begin the year by explicitly teaching the students specific skills through a reading comprehension packet. Every week a new skill focus will be covered in this packet. Teachers will also cover this same skill focus during weekly literature lessons. Students will be tested on this same focus at the end of the week using one of the passages from the literature book. In addition, we will use ReadWorks as a tool for both practice and assessments. The ReadWorks passages often correlate with topics in our current history or science units. They also often correlate to the current writing genre that we are focused on for the quarter. Finally, reading comprehension will also be taught using passages that contain our spelling and vocabulary words. These passages can be found in the final activity for each Wordly Wise lesson.
